Vivica Steer is a multifaceted professional with a diverse background and a passion for helping others. Driven by an unwavering commitment to make a difference, Vivica made a significant career shift. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Guidance and Counselling, with a minor in Applied Behaviour Analysis, from Jamaica Theological Seminary. Her thirst for knowledge and expertise led her to pursue a master’s degree in counselling psychology at Yorkville University in New Brunswick, Canada. Vivica is not only academically accomplished but also proficient in Jamaican Sign Language (JSL). In her role as a Training Officer, she supervised the training of teachers in Deaf Schools as part of a USAID project aimed at enhancing literacy among Deaf students in Jamaica. Her dedication to the cause is exemplary, reflecting her belief in the power of education to transform lives. Vivica migrated to Canada in 2021, where she found her new home in Nova Scotia. Despite the challenges of adapting to a different climate, she finds solace in the landscape, which reminds her of her roots, albeit with the notable exception of the Canadian winter. She is a Licensed Counselling Therapist-Candidate with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapist (NSCCT) and a Certified Counselling Therapist recognized by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapist Association. Vivica also serves as an Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA) Assessor with the African Nova Scotian Justice Institute (ANSJI), showcasing her commitment to issues of social justice and cultural sensitivity. Currently residing in Nova Scotia, Vivica’s professional fulfillment comes from working with clients assigned by the Department of Family Services. In this role, she assists parents on their journey toward hope, restoration, recovery, and reunification. While she works in a private clinic, her dedication to public service underscores her belief in the importance of giving back to the community. Vivica Steer’s journey is a testament to her resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. Through her diverse skill set and empathetic approach, she continues to be a beacon of hope and support for those she serves.
